"This is a very bad book you're writing," I said to myself.

"I know," I said.

"You're afraid you'll kill yourself the way your mother did," I said.

"I know," I said.

I updated the Hype page. Not every blog mention, review, or interview is listed. I tried to pick a mix of things. The Guardian review is my favorite negative review, and the Bookforum is my favorite positive review.

I keep thinking about Kurt Vonnegut.

summer

Just got back from a spending a week in Brooklyn. I live a little over two hours north, in Albany, which, to anyone living in Brooklyn, is a joke. Had fun. Like Brooklyn a lot. There's a possibility of moving there next year. Plans and such. Did a lot of walking around. Went to Coney Island. Went to a bar called Hot Bird. Didn't see Jonathan Foer.

Finished a draft of a new novel. Three tentative titles right now are: 1) Iamso. 2) Daniel Fights A Hurricane. 3) Save The Village Of Underwater Pipes Or Everyone Will Drown! It's more than twice as long as Light Boxes and much more messy/dreamy/violent. I know the book needs changes, edits, but I like the mess, the gnarls, the flaws.

From my editor's love, I started reading Your Face Tomorrow - a massive book split up into three parts. Just started it, but I like it.

2666? Yes?

Time to get ready for work.

books

Books purchased recently, some read:

1) Blood Meridian - insanely good. Read the ending (the last few pages) multiple times.

2) The Castle In Transylvania - looked interesting because it says on the cover "the original zombie story."

3) The Anthologist - about 75 pages in and enjoying it a lot.

4) As I Lay Dying - candle wax dripped over my old copy so I bought a new one. Forgot it's one of my favorite books.

5) The Man Who Was Thursday - also a favorite book of mine. I can't find my old copy and think my brother stole it. Ordered a new one.

6) The City & The City - bought this, read four pages, and put it down.

if

If people want to purchase The Failure Six or A Cake Appeared, they are published by indie publishers in the US (see the "hello" page for links). I'm saying this because I've gotten a few emails this week about getting copies and getting signed copies. If people want signed copies, I'd be happy to send them for the following prices:

The Failure Six: $12US, $15UK

A Cake Appeared: $12US, $15UK.

Or both for: $20US, $25UK.

I also have several copies of I Will Unfold You With My Hairy Hands (most likely layout fucked-up): $7US, $10UK.

And finally, "indie box set" will include all three books for: $25US, $30UK.

I'm not broke nor do I have a drug problem.
